#014: A Life Lesson From Our Messy Bedroom
This is a no judgement zone
Hello friend!
I have a confession.
Our bedroom is messy most of the time. Are we the only ones?
We do okay with the rest of the home.
Laundry in the living room gets folded in 7-10 business days.
The girls’ toy count is a max of 100 toys (per girl). Just kidding. Sorta.
We deep clean occasionally.
But our room takes last place.
My wife works her business, and I work my job, so it’s a rare sight to see our forces combine to tidy the bedroom.
Until last week.
The planets aligned.
We both had the motivation and availability to get the room done.
And it was glorious.
Our room was decluttered and organized like never before!
And to be honest, it didn’t take that much. All it took was a combined effort.

Yes. The bedroom is a metaphor.
The bedroom is those things in life that need care and attention, but can get put off over time. From the outside, the public rooms look neat and well kept, but the place we sleep in is a mess.
I have one more confession.
I’m the passive one most of the time in regards to our home tasks. But this is reflective of my previous approach to personal health and relationships most dear to me.
But I’m determined to continually grow out of passiveness.
I can’t control anyone else, but I can make sure I show up and lean in with the right attitude.
To the recovering passive dad (including myself): let’s be the ones that are always down to get our hands dirty, and do the work.
An ancient scripture comes to mind:
Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
We all have metaphorical messy bedroom (or a few) in our lives. Here is your nudge to self-reflect and take care of what’s most important.
Have an amazing rest of your week!

This newsletter issue wasn’t about the literal bedroom. But here’s an interesting video I found on how your space reflects you.
