#017: October Favorites

Children's Books, Target Shirts, and Koala Cuteness

Hello friends!

Hoping you are having a safe time out there tonight!

As for us, we will be reusing last year’s costumes. For the non-Marvel fans, I’m Thor from Ragnarok and my wife is The Mighty Thor from Love & Thunder.

Enough Marvel fandom.

Here is the favorites list for October.

📚 Books

Five Little Monkeys help clean the house since Grandma is coming over. Sound familiar? The read was a hit since we’ve been working a lot on modeling and encouraging cleaning up after ourselves. I’m proud to say our girls knew when the monkeys were making a terrible mess in the home. We all laughed.

The Smart Cookie by Jory John and Pete Oswald

This Smart Cookie learns we all have strengths and weaknesses in different subjects. It’s a book about building confidence and finding joy in creating. Relatable to our 1st grader. And our 3-year-old loved all the baked good and pastry characters.

🎤 Podcast

Arnold is an icon from my childhood. I don’t know if it’s my fascination with Hollywood, my new interest in physical health and resilience, or my 1990s nostalgia, but this interview had my glued.

💸 Purchase

Do your shirts become crop tops after the first wash? I’ve purchased my fair share of tees over the years: Forever 21, H&M, la JC Pennies. I have never been happy with the fit of my shirts after they shrink.

Goodfellow V-Necks are my go-to, and still fit they way they did when I bought them. Inexpensive too.

This is not an ad, seriously. Target declined my affiliate application. But they’re still great!

🎧 Music

This one is a bit silly, but it’s a banger. The song is actually Louie Louie by The Kingsmen, but with subbed lyrics of the story of Moses, Pharaoh, and escape from Egypt. The chorus is a great sing-a-long we all love to chant in the car. You won’t regret hearing it, unless you don’t want it stuck in your head.

🍿 Streaming

My wife discovered this gem about a 13-year-old girl that rescues Koala’s with her family in Australia.

Our girls keep going back to it. Rated TV-Y. There’s minimal peril (talks of wildfires, green ants that bite the furry friends) our 3yo and 6yo handled well. We are bummed it only went on for two seasons. It’s such a great documentary that teaches compassion, friendship, and environmental awareness. And who can deny the cuteness of a Koala.

🧠 Creative

My only experience with Artificial Intelligence has been with ChatGPT until a few weeks ago. I looked for a free AI art generator to use for my Podcast/Newsletter content. It’s not perfect, but still fun! Easy since you can see other users creations and language prompts they used. Check it out here: Ideogram.

I received some encouraging replies in the last few weeks. Just want to say thank you! And keep letting me know if you find anything of value in the issue. I always appreciate it.

Best of luck to all you sweet tooths out there, but remember, you can always get back on track tomorrow! 🎃

Until next week, 1% gains 💪
